Vodafone UK has today announced the launch of its 5G network across seven cities in the UK heralding a new dawn in mobile connectivity.
With ever-increasing demands on the mobile network and an insatiable appetite for more and more data consumption, 5G is the fifth generation of mobile internet communications and designed to address the exacting demands of both businesses and consumers. 5G will also introduce a number distinct benefits with ground breaking implications for us all.
- Faster data speeds
- Higher network capacity
- Lower Latency
5G technology will deliver speeds up to 10 times faster than 4G providing much quicker downloads for everyone. The radio frequencies involved will also provide much higher network capacity allowing people to stay connected when in large crowds or busy areas, and last but not least, one of the main benefits of 5G technology is that it presents much lower latencies for users.
In other words, 5G users will have seamless access to their vital applications with virtually no lag time at all. The impact of these benefits are being tipped to revolutionise a whole host of new applications and technologies to take advantage of super-fast, (almost) real-time, and reliable mobile connectivity.
The advancements in 5G technology are tipped to be a critical enabler for the fourth industrial revolution.
With 4G viewed as the era of the smart phone, 5G is poised to become the era of Smart Technology and the Internet of Things with more widespread connectivity between devices, machines and buildings.
Following reports from business customers that mobile data allowances are a limitation on their business, Vodafone has also introduced a range of groundbreaking "Business Unlimited" plans. With a choice of three "Business Unlimited" tariffs, SME businesses with less than 50 employees will now have absolutely no limit on the amount of data they can use.
The real gamechanger is that any SME business in the UK will be able to avail of the new unlimited data allowances, even if they don't reside in a 5G enabled area.
Vodafone 5G In The United Kingdom
Initially, the seven UK cities to be connected to Vodafone's 5G network are Glasgow, London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol. 12 more cities will also be connected before the end of the year, including Birkenhead, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Guildford, Newbury, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Reading, Southampton, Stoke on Trent, Warrington and Wolverhampton.
With Vodafone owning the second largest mobile phone network on the planet, today's announcement, launching 5G in 7 cities and with 12 more to come, is also more than any other network in the UK and will also allow roaming in 4 countries this Summer with more to follow shortly.
